Shotokan Karate
Our Shotokan Karate-jitsu program teaches students the techniques of several martial art forms and is led by 6th dan karate expert, Renshi Brian Norrish, supprted by a team of blackbelts each with decades of experience. Shotokan Karate-jitsu is the most popular Japanese karate style in the world. This approach focuses on straight and powerful technique.

Multi Disciplinary Approach
We teach techniques from martial arts such as Karate, Judo and Aikido. These techniques are taught to ensure skills at distance and close range fighting, developing a well rounded martial artist.

Our Expert Instructors

Sensei Jim Shullman
Sensei Jim Shullman had approx. 5 years experience in other external martial arts before joining HBK in 2001. Since joining HBK he has earned a second degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and continues to train in the Chinese internal art Ba Gua Zhang.

Kyoshi Peter Van Tienen
Kyoshi Peter Van Tienen is a 7th degree black belt. He was trained by Kancho Takemasa Okuyama, the head of the International Karate Association.

Renshi Brian Norrish
Renshi Brian Norrish is a 6th degree black belt in karate and has been a chief instructor at HBK since 1989.

Hanshi Fred Walker
8th degree black belt in karate and a 5th degree black belt in judo. He is the founder of HBK,and now retired from daily teaching.
